Strengthening Families is a Spanish-language parenting curriculum that H.A.C.A.N. has successfully taught for 19 years to nearly 2,0000 parents. Its is based on the premise that we can prevent child abuse and neglect by providing parents with skills needed to resolve family conflicts in an atmosphere of mutual respect, cooperation, love and understanding.
Strengthening Families is a program that will help parents to:
Establish a better communication with their children.
Know effective discipline methods.
Manage effectively family conflicts.
Share with other parents their ideas and concerns.
Obtain information about community resources.
The classes are free and baby-sitting will be provided at no cost for those parents who want to participate in the program.
The instructor is Shirley Jones, Family Therapist, who has more than 16 years of
experience in teaching family courses to the Hispanic Community in the
Washington area.
Ms.Jones is from Honduras, but she also has lived many years in Mexico City. She has been living for 30 years in the United
States and since then she has been helping and working with Hispanic
